Why I Love ’80s Music

If you look through my music library, you’ll notice that a lot of the music I listen too was made before 1992. Keep in mind, I’m in my early 20s and was not alive when most of my favorite songs were big hits. Don’t get me wrong, I like new music, but there is something about the musical past that I find appealing. To me, music is like wine: it gets better with age!

And the one period of time that really sticks out to me were the 1980s. I’m obsessed with it. The sound has such a futuristic and unnatural feel. From the thundering drums and big guitars to the weird sounding synthesizers and thumping beats. Nothing sounded like it, and to this day, it still stands on its own. You know it’s from the ’80s as soon as you hear it.

There was also a prevalent attitude in the music, this feeling that nothing will ever stop us. It made us blind to limits and encouraged excess, a true reflection of the times .While these attitudes still exist in today’s music, there was a certain charm in seeing it grow in the ’80s.

Music is like wine, it gets better with age

Everything was maximized, it had to be bigger, faster and stronger. It did get to a point where the production became cliche, but over time the cliche turned into a signature sound. I think the ’80s was the last decade that had a signature sound to it throughout all genres. The ’90s were more of a cleaner and better sonic-ally sounding ’70s.

This post was kind of all over the place but I wanted to get my thoughts on the subject out there.
